about

“We are the foundation at the bottom to take all the pressure,” Svornotten bellows as a somber tagline, completing the first segment of his diatribe. This brand of electronic music (industrial, EBM, seriously… pick a moniker) is often misunderstood by those seeking escapist celebration. It’s angry disco. So what? To the black boot-wearing margins of the EBM galaxy in the know, it’s a different kind of celebration. This is a direct message to a disenfranchised margin.

This track is home where angst goes to sweat and consume cheap draft beer. It’s rough around the edges. The vocals start as a spoken rant, ultimately resolving into a hissed anti-melody to the end. Meanwhile, the music itself hastily propagates with purpose. The portmanteau hook, first heard in the transition between the ranting vocal passages, is the cue for the dance floor to get angry and move. It carries the song from its initial stomping pulse to its abrupt ending. After all, why stick around once your point is made?

lyrics

LYRICS:

What a shame, what a world
To look upon all the pain
The poor
The enslaved
Those made to feel lesser
Who’s to claim what is better
Your way of life as the oppressor
We are the foundation at the bottom to take all the pressure

And when you look down from your house on high
Remember on who’s back you had to climb
All these poor huddled masses
Trying to make it through this disaster
Someone should help them is that what you’re after
Where to look now, all that’s heard is laughter
Can’t deal with facts while exploiting the cracks

And you can be
That somebody

And you can be…

(to help, to serve, to burn)
